Adipex-P

Adipex (phentermine) is a drug intended for the treatment of obesity in patients with additional health risks, such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. This medicine works by changing the way your central nervous system works reducing food cravings. Adipex is usually not supposed to be taken for over 2 years, unless your health care provider thinks this is necessary. Taking this medicine for a long time and in large doses can cause some unpleasant and even dangerous symptoms that need to be reported to the doctor that prescribed you Adipex. The following symptoms are supposed to cause special concern: hyperactivity, irritability, insomnia, personality changes, and skin problems. These symptoms can indicate you are not supposed to take this medication in such amounts. This drug is pregnancy category C. It is not known for sure what effects Adipex can have on the health of an unborn and nursing baby. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are therefore not supposed to start the treatment without previously talking to their doctor and discussing all the risks and benefits. Adipex is most efficient when taken 10-14 hours before bedtime, usually before you are going to have your morning meal. If you take it on an empty stomach Adipex will be absorbed faster, while taking it with meals can slow down the absorption. Discuss the way of taking Adipex that will be most suitable for you with your doctor. Never take Adipex in higher amounts that prescribed, as an overdose can be very dangerous. The following symptoms can indicate you have taken too much of Adipex and need to seek emergency medical attention: tremors, lightheadedness, hallucinations, nausea, diarrhea, confusion, convulsions, vomiting, fainting, stomach pain, restlessness, and seizure. It’s very important that you tell your doctor about any drugs you are also taking, as they may affect the success of your treatment. Make sure you notify your health care provider of any of the following: oral insulin medications, high blood pressure medications, guanadrel, antidepressants, oral diabetes drugs, or guanethidine. Any other prescription or over-the-counter meds you are using are also supposed to be reported, as they can decrease the effectiveness of Adipex. Insomnia, constipation, headache, diarrhea, itching, dry mouth, nervousness, tremors, and dizziness are the few side effects Adipex can cause. They do not need to be reported, as they are most likely to go away on their own.
